LOUIS Officials with the Missouri Department of Health decided a reprinted pamphlet titled "Condom Sense" went beyond public-health advice in encouraging men to "get kinky but play safe," so they ordered the 10,000 copies sent to the shredding machine, the St.

Louis PostDispatch reported today. 'A lot of the material was fine and very appropriate," department spokeswoman Laurie Ellison told the newspasper for a copyright story, "It talked about condoms and how they could be used and the proper use of a condom," she said. "The problem we had as a department was the last two or three panels that went a step further. They included information and suggestions that were not publie suggestions or publiehealth information." The brochure originally was published by the St. Louis Effort for AIDS to promote the use of condoms in preventing acquired immune deficiency syndrome and other sexually transmitted diseases.

The approval to reprint the pamphlet last month came from an employee in the state health Director Dr. Robert G. Harmon and other officials in the department's program that fights AIDS. reviewed the copies before they were distributed agency and decided they were not appropriate because of their sexual content. The section in question is titled "Condoms can be fun, if you use some imagination." It describes techniques to make sex more enjoyable while using condoms.

The department has since reprinted another brochure, written by the U.S. Public Health Service and the American Red Cross, and the employees responsible for the reprint ing have been disciplined, said C. Charles Stokes deputy director of the Health Department.
