The City Election. -c Our Publio- Opinion column indicates a good deal of unrest and uneasiness in the public, mind. This is not confined to any party, bat peiviulcs all alike. There are two potent caases for 1 this condition of alVairs, both of which are underestimated as factors iu the re-1 suit of the approaching diction, by i those who are most deeply interested. One of thcsi tuus is, the general fielingthat neither party did as well as might have done in tin selection of candidates.

The other is the conlituidd depression in business. A great many mechanics and laboring men are out of employment, or if employed at all, are paid very low wages. When men are comfortably situated, they are easily satisfied. When they are not, they naturally find fault with everything and everybody around them. Employers are not to blame for low a as their profits are reduced the lowest point, and many of them are making nothing at all.

The City Government is not to blame, for it has furnished all the employment it possjbly could, and its treasury is exhausted. It will be remembered, too, in this connection, that a provision of the constitution prohibits the city from incurring any indebtedness which the receipts of the current year will cot meet. Men do not stop, as they should, to consider these things, but rush impatiently to the result. They do not consult the facts which have produced the condition of which they complain but, anxiously desiring something better, they charge their misfortunes upon whatever is nearest to them. This is apt to be the City Government, or tneir fellow-citizens who are more fortunately situated.

A necessary result is this desire for lafge expenditures for public improvements, in order that there shall be an abundance of employment at good wages. There would be nothing wrong in this if the municipal government was able to foot the bills; but if it was, then the expenditures would be unnecessary, as employment would be furnished from other sources. Those who have the burdens to bear in the shape of taxes becomo alarmed at the prevalence of a demand which they know cannot be met without ruin to the financial standing of the city, and legitimately ennnatirg from all this is a feeling of jealousy on one side, and of suspicion on the other. This feeling had much making the nominations on either side, "t' 'i I'1, imii addition- 1 ai will In to jav tf which complaint is nude, for if all Term of ll'rehh: had worked harmoniously together, all sink niiw riiitimn, jut yi-ar i would have been satisfied with the re IVuUh! A ihort communication from Elder Cunningham appears in this morning's paper. The matter referred to was so palpable a perversion of the truth, that we did not deem it worthy of contradiction. The Forsyth Jionetr copied a local item from this paper and credited it to the Chicago Inter- Ocean. Then (olio ws the Kansas City Journal, which copies the same item and credits the Forsyth Patriot. We would like to know what breed of scissors these editors employ.

Their intelligence is something truly wonderful, and we would like to employ a few of the same kind. Let us have rest on the discussion of theological questions. Correspondents sre losing their temper, and we fear the public are losing their patience. The great debate, it seems, has stirred up an amonnt of acrimony on both sides that only needs a little fanning to degenerate into indecency. If the respective combatants must wool each other in this savage manner, the Patriot is not desirous of lending its countenance to the unseemly contest.

This much by way of answer to the tide of invective that is flowing in upon os, and to which too much latitude has already been given. F. Trmplin. The Republican candidate for Coun-. oilman in the Third Ward has a hard district in which to make bis contest.

The Democrats claim to have a work-: ing majority in the ward of at least; fifty, and they bare nominated a iuan; who stands well with his party. In the face of these odds Mr. Templin is work-' ing for victory, and his well-known: business integrity, and his acknowl-i edged energy and ability, have pro-j cured for him the hearty indorsement of miry of the best men in his ward. Before coming to this city, he filled with credit to himself and his party, high official positions; and, should the voters of the Third Ward honor him with the effice of Councilman, he will perform its duties faithfully and well, and their interests will he safe in his hands. The indications are that he will be elected, and he Will prove a safe custodian, not only of the interests of his ward, hot of tha city.

The Train Wreckers. Mr. Hendricks, Sheriff of Pnlieki county, came in on the train yesterday looming with ail of the train-wreckers in charge, which Includes Woodward, who has heretofore been confined, in the Phelps dountyjail at KoUa. Gibson, Although acqu.tted on one Indictment, Is held ior' trial on two others growing ottt of the same fiendish act, and may yet be convicted. The Sheriff dropped into the Patriot office while in town, and said that public opinion In Pulaski county did not sustain the verdict of the jury; that the jury were good, honorable men, who endeavored to faithfully discharge their duty, but who seemed to be unable to comprehend the force and validity of circumstantial testimony.

there it yet' hope dhat the fair fame of the State may be Vindicated, and the wretches who were guilty of the horrid crime at Woodend brought to justice. The prisoners were tamed over to Sheriff Potter for safe-keeping. Sheriff Mendriekf is a very pleasant gentleman, and We would be pleased to have Mm call again. THE SPRINGFIELD WAGON COMPANY Have reduced the price of complete Wagons $5 on last year's prices and have added many improvements not found on any other wsgon. Springfield Wagon Company suit. The however, are in the field, and one or the other of them will be eltcted. And in the face of that certainty, we want to ask Republicans again, in what possible way they can either benefit their party, themselves individually, or the city, by abandoning any part of their own ticket for that of their opponents. If there was a marked difference in any respect in favor of the Democratic ticket, or any part of it, there would be a reasonable excuse for such action, but, the truth if, that the difference in every instance is in favor of the Republican nominations. We hope therefore that Republicans will go to work manfully for the ticket, and not chase working Until the list votd is polled bit the day of election.

We have a minority of the votes, and that majority should be polled. Such a course will not be regretted; the contrary might be. A Correction. An occasional mistake will oesur In the best regulated hewspaper offices. In oor.

We regret the oversight, and hope this correction will enable all to understand that it was simply a mistake and not an intentional neglect.
