LOUIS, -An Investigaiton of school finance at nearby Brooklyn has brought the resignation of William Terry as nuperintendent of schools and the firing of the seven-member school board of Lovejoy School District These two development yesterday came on the heels of the disclosure by State's Attorney Richard T. Carter of St.

Clair County that Mrs. Cecile Hudspeth, principal of the hlfih school, had admitted embezzling $1,940 in school funds. The 76-year-old terry also is mayor of the village, an all-Negro suburb of East St. Louis, and supervisor of Stit ies township. The job of superintendent paid $6,00 a yean Clarence Blair.

St. Clan-County superintendent of schools, said the school board dismissals are effective next Monday. His action followed a recommendation by Carter. Carter said the board had not held a regular meeting in at least six years and had not recorded certain voting records as required by state law. Blair added that board members had hired themselves as janitors for the school district.

Despite Blair's action and the Maio-naHrtn tj two board mem- rrt. the. school board named Terry as a new member and Its president, abolished Terry's old superintendent post and named Edward Powell as seer eta y. Terry also announced he will "apply for a 300-a month. pension as a in Illinois schools for 48 years.

Carter said the county circuit court grand jury will meet Aug. 20 instead of in September to consider the case of Mrs. Hudspeth.
