His character was a reflection of a lifelong relationship with Christ and his life made a lasting impression on those who knew him. Typically, she downplayed these accomplishments. Helen and Joe celebrated their thirty-sixth wedding anniversary in January 2001 at a surprise party thrown by their children, along with family and many of their special friends. Helen was thrilled to witness the birth of her first grandchild, James Barta III, in October 2001. He brought her much joy and happiness during her last weeks. She left this world with his picture in her hand.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Joe Hills of the home; her son, Joe Hills Jr. of Springfield; her daughter and son-in-law, Charisse and James Barta II, and their son, James Barta III of Smithton, her brother, John Underwood and his long-time girlfriend, Angle Key of St. Louis; her brother and sister-in-law, Ashley and Ton) Underwood of St. Louis; an aunt, Wilma Burns of Russellville, many cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

She will be lovingly remembered and honored by all of us. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2001, in King's Way United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2001, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.

Born August 28, 1931 in Kansas City, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Clara T. (Alkfelt) Eighmy. A homemaker, she was of the Catholic faith. Surviving Is her husband, Delbert w.

Hurley W. Baird I Hurley W. Baird I. 84, passed at 3:36 a.m. December 13, 2001, in St.

John's Regional Health Center in Springfield. He was born December 18, 1916 in Weatherford, Okla. to Oscar R. and Mabel Baird. He was a retired steam engineer from Rockwell International, Palmsdale, Local 501.

He married his first and only love, Geneva V. Baird on June 27, 1936 in Beggs, Okla. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Geneva, a resident of the Christian Health Care Center, Springfield, a brother, Melvin (Poncho) Baird and wife, Marie of Santa Fe, N.M.; three children, Janice M. Losee and husband, Lee of Upland, Hurley W. Baird II and wife, Lynn of Redding, Allen Baird and wife, Victoria of Nixa, six grandchildren, Joy Losee of Rancho Cucamanga, Robyn Coelho and husband, Manuel of Rancho Cucamanga.

Hurley W. Baird III and wife, Jennifer of Redding, Kristen Baird of Birmingham, Lori Aldrich and husband, Brandon of Springfield, and Gary M. Julian of Ozark, and four greatgrandchildren, Jacob, Destiny, Bailey and Madline. Hurley was a loving husband and father. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind and gentle spirit.

He lived a life filled with honesty, integrity and courage. He wilt be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2001, in the Kelley Funeral Home Chapel In Okmulgee, Okla.

Barbara Lee Myers BUFFALO Mrs. Barbara Lee Myers, 74, Buffalo, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, in the Bristol Manor in Buffalo. A retired nursing home administrator, she was a member of the First Baptist Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Mrs. Myers is survived by 3 daughters and their spouses, Dewanna and Adolfo Marquez of Buffalo, Kay and Corey Wy-man of Kansas City and Ju-lane and Rex (Pete) Barclay of Tunas; 1 sister, Shirley True of Kansas City; 3 grandchildren, Angela Hink of Kansas City, Kayla Barclay and Kali Barclay of Tunas; and three great-grandchildren, Nolan Ryun, Mason Hink and Kalen Barclay. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, at 2 p.m. in Montgomery-Viets Chapel. Burial will be in Lind-ley Cemetery under the direction of Montgomery-Vlets Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. lima J. (demons) Myers Irma J. (Clemons) Myers, 79, Springfield, died Tuesday in her home.

Irma was born August 28, 1922 to Homer and Mazie Clemons in Elvins, Mo. She was married to Paul Myers, who preceded her in death. Helen Keith (Underwood) Hills Helen Keith (Underwood) Hills passed away at 2 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2001.

She fought cancer for a year and a half. Complications from the disease took her from this world into the next. She died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She was bom on August 15, 1936 in New Orleans, La. Her parents were Ashley Keith Underwood and Nona Ruth Underwood.

She was one of three children. She had two brothers, John Underwood and, later bom, Ashley Underwood. She always considered New Orleans her home and returned to it on many occasions to enjoy its rich culture and cuisine. The family moved around a great deal while she was growing up. A natural athlete and competitor, she lettered in many sports.

In the course of these moves, she acquired a lifelong love of reading and knowledge. It was this love that allowed her to graduate from high school at the age of 16. By this time, she was living In St. Louis, Mo. She attended Harris Teacher's College, where she earned both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education and taught in the St.

Louis school system. She was introduced to the man she loved while she was teaching school. Her mother, Nona Ruth, met a young medical resident, Joe Hills and invited him and some of his friends to come over for a home-cooked meal. It was over this steak and garlic bread dinner that Helen and Joe fell in love. They were married on January 30, 1965.

Their son, Joseph, was bom two years later in St. Louis. The family moved to Texas. Their daughter, Charisse, was born in San Antonio in 1968. Helen loved San Antonio, another town she was to visit many times during her life.

Helen's father, Keith Underwood, lived to see his first grandson, Joe but passed away before seeing his first granddaughter. Helen's mother, Nona Ruth, was able to see both grandchildren before she, too, passed away. The family moved to Springfield in 1969. Helen dedicated herself to raising her children and ensuring their education. Her concern was not limited to her own children; she also wanted to help other children learn and grow.

She was one of the founders of Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary School library. She volunteered for the Springfield Public School System as a "Picture Lady," educating young students about great artists and their works. Helen always enjoyed sports and competition. 1 life. Robert Leroy Morris Robert Leroy "Bob" Morris peacefully went to be with his Lord while at James River Care Center, Springfield. Robert was born April 3, 1920 in Stanberry, to Charles Leroy and Mildred Lucille (Ruch) Morris. He was united in marriage to Roberta (Shannon) Morris on May 27, 1941 in Houston, Mo. and Into this Christian home, their son, Arthur Leroy Morris was born.

Robert will be dearly missed by his family, his many friends and his family at James River Care Center. He was preceded In death by his wife, Roberta on April 13 1999; his parents, Charles Leroy and Mildred Lucille (Ruch) Morris; and a sister, Lillian Morris, at birth in 1918. He is survived by his son, Arthur Leroy of Nevada, a daughter-in-law, Linda Ray Morris of Nevada; two grandsons and their families, Kevin Arthur and Maria Morris and their children, Whitney Jo, Kenan Zachery and Kurtis Ely of Strafford and Christopher Ray and Sarah Morris and their daughter, Annabelle P. of Nevada. Robert deeply loved his wife, family and church.

He was a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church in Mountain Grove and worked for feese Chevrolet in Mountain Grove. When they moved to Springfield, they attended Boulevard Baptist Church, Jefferson Avenue Baptist and Macedonia Baptist. He was ordained a Deacon at Jefferson Avenue and recognized as Deacon Emeritus at Macedonia Baptist. He worked as Service Manager at Terrill Chevrolet, Reliable Chevrolet and Wessell Olds until health forced him to retire. He kept busy with his church and helping with the garden.

He was part of the James River Care Center Family since 1999. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2001, In Greenlawn Funeral Home South, with the Rev's. Charles Hufft and Keith Vawter officiating. Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery.

Planning Probate Basinets planning it 1 Hugh Monroe Higgs Hugh Monroe Hig gas, aae 13, 2001, 68, aiea December in cassviiie, mo. after a long illness. Hugh, the son of the late George Harvey and Elisabelle (Baker) Higgs was bom May 2, 1913 In Wheaton, Mo. One of nine children, Hugh is survived by one brother, Junior Harvey Higgs of Exeter, Mo. Hugh was united In marriage to Miss Hazel Margaret Erwin, daughter of the late Judge and Ora Erwin on June 4, 1932.

Hugh and Hazel lived in Barry County most of their married lives and settled In Exeter in 1948. This coming June would have marked their 70th wedding anniversary. To this union four children were bom, three sons and one daughter. Fred Harvey died at five days of age, Hugh Darrell of Exeter, Franklin Delano of Valley Center, Kan. and Martha Jane of Springfield, Mo.

Ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson also survive him. One grandchild. Sherry Jane Burd, preceded him in death. Hugh was saved on October 11, 1932 and later answered God's call to preach the Gospel, being ordained on the 1st day of August, 1948 by his peers at Calvary Baptist Church of Exeter, in which he was a member. Hugh's faithful service to the Lord led him to preach In four states, throughout Barry County and surrounding areas.
