"Brownie" Brown, 59, formerly of Springfield, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, after a short illness. He was 59. Brownie had lived in Springfield for more than 20 years and was well known as an automotive muffler and pipe salesman, working for Wiser Warehouse and Gator Products. He also was known at area flea markets for his interest in selling and collecting die-cast model cars and related memorabilia.

He moved to Jackson, two years ago where he was national sales manager for Farrow Fabricating. OI' Brownie could be rude and crude at times, but he was a good friend, partner and loved one who would have given the shirt off his back even if it was too big! Brownie is survived by loved ones and many friends who will miss him. Henry "Floyd" Goldsby Henry Goldsby, 94, went his Lord and "Savior at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, in Cox South Hospital. Floyd was born on April 5, 1910, in LaPlata, to the late Henry and Rosa (Burnett) Goldsby. He attended Kirksville State College and was teaching school in Adair County when he met his wife, Olive Clark.

They were united in marriage on May 20, 1931. proudly served his the USS Maui and countess Leyte in the United States Navy during World War 11, where he earned the Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Floyd started in the insurance business in Hannibal, and later moved to establish an insurance agency in Lebanon, in July 1947 and spent 38 years with Metropolitan Life Insurance until his retirement in May 1973. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lebanon where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent and later transferred his membership to Asbury United Methodist Church here in Springfield. Across the years, he was involved in many community service activities such as the Lebanon Park Board for nine years, President of the Lebanon Lions Club, Leader of the Boy Scout Troop 57, the Hughes Senior Center, American Legion, Odd Fellows and the Lebanon VFW.

He was honored by the Lebanon Optimist Club and served for six years on the CMAAA board in Jefferson City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 and a half years, Olive; five brothers; and one sister. Survivors include daughter Margaret Day and husband Ralph E. (Gene) of Springfield; two granddaughters, Karrie Ridder and husband Bob, and Kelly Polonus and husband Eric, all of Springfield; six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew and Jared Ridder and Jake, Chelsea and Polonus; and one Earl Roan and wife Joy, of Nixa. Two nieces also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Springfield, under the care of Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Rivermonte. Burial will follow in Springfield National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lebanon, or Asbury United Methodist Church. (Turner) Hale. He graduated in 1981 from Bolivar High School. Along with his parents, he was the owner of Hale Mercantile. He was united in marriage to Melissa (Milli) L. Graves and to this union two children were born.

He is survived by his wife, Milli, son Brock Hale and daughter Brooke Hale of Bolivar; his parents, Orland and Evelyn Hale of Bolivar; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Rick and Pam Hale of Bolivar, and Rodney, Hale of Springfield; two sisters and brothers Neal of Bolivar, Donna and and his twin sister, Rhonda Jasper and husband Randy of Bolivar; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joe and Lettie Turner, and paternal grandparents, Jim and Jenny Hale. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 12, 2004, in Pitts Chapel in Bolivar.

on Sundays. by 4:30 p.m. Visit News- Margaret Lehman Margaret Louise "Peggy" (Wood) Lehman, of Springfield, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, after a brief illness. The daughter of Rev.

Charles Newton and Sadie (Musson) Wood, she was born on Aug. 11, 1906, in Granger, Mo. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kirksville. She moved from Kirksville to Springfield in 1998 to live with her sister and brother-in-law. Peggy graduated from Altamont, Mo.

High School. She attended Missouri Wesleyan College and graduated from Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman University). She taught school for seven years. She was united in marriage to Glenn O. Lehman in June of 1930, and to this union no children were born.

They lived in Hampton, and both worked at NASA. While in Kirksville, she worked for Farm and Tractor Supply. She was volunteer work in Virginia and Missouri, and was honored for 6,000 hours with RSVP. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, handcrafts, gardening, reading and being with her friends and family. Peggy was preceded in death by her father and mother; husband; and four brothers, Archie, Rev.

Romaine, Rev. Eugene, and Dr. Paul Wood. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Claribel and Charles Casey, of the home; nine nieces and nephews; numerous greatnieces and nephews; greatgreat-nieces and nephews; and many friends. On Wednesday, Sept.

8, a graveside service was held at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville. A memorial service celebrating Peggy's life will be held at the First Church of God, 720 E. Norton in Springfield on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 2:30 p.m. Revs.

Odene Wampler and Rick Herald will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of one's choice. In Loving Memory Bill I. Dameron Missing Loving You Jody Betty Lou Lane Betty Lou Lane, 59, of Springfield, passed away Sept. 10, 2004, at Cox Walnut Lawn after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Terrell, Texas, on May 9, 1945, to Asher and Dorothy Jane Lane. She graduated from Middletown TWP High School in New Jersey, and earned her teaching degree at CMSU, Warrensburg, and her Masters in Library Science at CMSU as well. Betty taught at Louisiana, Cabool, and St. Clair, Mo. She was a longtime member of Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Educational Fraternity.

She was likewise a member of St. James Episcopal Church. She loved the Rosary prayer group. She was an active member of OES Crescent White Shrine Pleiades True Kindred Queen Esther Conclave, and the Order of the Amaranth Jewell Court She was preceded in death by her father in 1986. Survivors are her mother, Dorothy Jane Lane; brothers, Bill and wife Karin of Overland Park, and Pat and wife Sherre of Springfield; nieces and nephews, Bill Jr.

and wife Kristen and children Karlin and Chase, Jennifer Matt; aunts, Betty Lou and husband Raymond Whitney, Topeka, and Virginia Cooper and her daughter, Sandy, of Missoula, and many more friends. James Episcopal Church, your favorite cancer society, or the American Diabetes Association." Margaret Garrity Margaret Garrity, 96, Springfield, passed away on Sept. 8, 2004, in Magnolia Square. She was born in Portage, Oct. 7, 1907. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Garrity.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donald and Lynette Utic of Springfield; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. KLINGNER COPE FUNERAL HOME Dick Teri Cope Our Family Serving Your Family Clarence E. Hammer Clarence E. Hammer, born Jan. 29, 1927, passed away Sept. 10, 2004, at 7:27 at the age of 77.

Clarence moved to Springfield in 1962. He opened up his own business, known as Hammer's Auto Works. He retired and sold that business when he was in his 50s. He was a World War I1 veteran. He loved airplanes and flying.

After retiring, he moved to San Carlos, Mexico, where he did a lot of deep sea fishing that he enjoyed. He then moved back to Springfield in the late 80s. Preceding Clarence in death were his parents; wife Ruth JoAnn Hammer; son Raymond G. Hammer; two brothers; and two sisters. Clarence is survived by two sons, Clarence L.

Hammer Longview, Texas, Charles W. Hammer of Branson; two daughters, Margie Cantrell of Springfield, and Lois Lee Bocklemaan of Kansas City, and one stepdaughter, Sherry Palmer of Texas. He also had 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, in the Shelter at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.
