Mary was a retired medical secretary and a member of Glenstone Baptist Church in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ida McDaniel; three brothers, James Edwin, Raymond and Hubert McDaniel; a sister, Myra Kightlinger; and two nephews, James David McDaniel and Bruce McDaniel.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Thelma McDaniel and Emogene McDaniel; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Jan. 6, 2007, at Greenlawn North Funeral Home, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 7 p.m.

Gradie D. Sanders Gradie D. Sanders was born September 25, 1913, in Pontiac, and passed away at the age of 93 Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at Primrose Healthcare. He grew up in the area. He and his wife Bernie owned Gradie's Clothing Store until May of 1967, at which time he began working for Beltone Hearing Aid Company and later moved to Fort Smith, where he owned and operated a Beltone Dealership.

After retirement, they moved to Springfield. Preceding him in death were his wife Bernie; his parents, John and Elza Sanders; and two sisters Mae Lovelace and Vada Johnson. Survivors include sister Velma Bennett and her husband, Lowell; and a number of nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at the Sunset Church of Christ in Springfield today, January 5, 2007, at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m.

Obituaries must Mildred Gustin Mildred Gustin, 90, Springfield, passed away on Monday, January 4 4, 2007, at St. John's Regional Health Center after a long illness. Mildred was born on August 3, 1916, in Green City, to Mansur and Mary Payne. On August 6, 1946, she married Walter P. "Butch" Gustin, to which sons were born, Walter Phillip Gustin, of Springfield, and Terry Wayne Gustin, of Tulsa, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter; her parents; and all six of her siblings. Survivors include her two sons, Phil and Terry; four grandchildren, Jennifer Cosgrove and husband, James, of Springfield, Renee Gustin of Tulsa, Ryan Gustin, of Springfield, and Sarah Newton and husband, Tyler, of Tulsa, and two great-grandchildren, Kaden Newton, of Tulsa, and Kennedy Cosgrove, of Springfield. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by a niece, Carol Yates, of Nixa; a brother-in-law, Harold Gyber, also of Nixa; and Mildred's best friend, Marsha Stoviak, whom she loved dearly. Mildred was a remarkable woman with a great zeal for life and excitement. She loved bingo and Las Vegas.

Her fun-loving spirit made her popular with everyone she came in contact with. To her family she will always be lovingly known as Her zest for life and dogged determination to cope with a gloomy health prognosis served as an inspiration to her family, loved ones and doctors. Graveside services will be Saturday, January 6, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Maple Park Cemetery, with Chaplain Jerry Keegan officiating under direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. She was born October 16, 1929, in Cape Fair, Missouri, to Josh and Clara Edna Coones Starkey. She attended school in Cassville and Fulton, Missouri, and was a retired nurse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Lee Wallace, granddaughter, Teresa K.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Genevieve Rainey, Ruby Marley, Mamie Marley and Thelma O'- Neil; and three brothers, Roy, Clark and Clay Wilcox. She is survived by her husband Wallace Shipman. Goldie and Wallace were married August 17, 1940, and were blessed with two children: their son, David Ronald Shipman and wife, Paula, Willard, Missouri; grandson, Matthew Shipman and wife, Shelia, Willard, Missouri; and granddaughter, Emily Shipman, Willard, Missouri; their daughter, Mary Ann Shipman, Springfield, Missouri; a sister, Louise Melton, of Springfield; two brothers, Donald Wilcox and wife, Mary, of Nixa, and Ray Wilcox, of Nixa; along with a wealth of loving nieces and nephews. Goldie was loved by her family and friends and admired for the wonderful meals she prepared for Sunday night dinners and holiday celebrations.

LOUIS AmerenUE on Thursday gave the Missouri Public Service Commission its plan to improve reliability during severe storms. Under the plan that met Thursday's deadline set by the PSC, Ameren listed among its recommendations the need to increase its treetrimming budget by $15 million. It also suggested more comprehensive pole and line inspections, and changing regulations to require that all new power lines be placed underground. They were among more than a dozen preliminary ideas and concepts that Ameren said would require further analysis to determine cost, benefits and feasibility.

The top official for the St. Louis-based utility warned that there is no simple solution to power-delivery problems caused by extreme weather damage, and that it doesn't necessarily show a power system is poorly designed or maintained. "Severe storms have severe results," Ameren's president and chief executive officer Thomas Voss wrote in the report. He cited a National Weather Service claim that St. Louis reported more severe weather last year than any other office in the country.

Ameren has taken heat for outages from storms in July and November that each left more than half a million homes without power.
