Two languages better than one By Jason Rima News-Leader News-Leader News-Leader Felix Chang learned how to read and write differently from most other kindergarten students students his age. Six-year-old Six-year-old Six-year-old Six-year-old Six-year-old Felix, who attends Truman Elementary School, reads and writes in both English and Chinese. "He's more fluent in English than some of my regular students," students," says teacher Karren Johnson. Although Felix has a better understanding of the language than most of his classmates, he considers English to be his second second language. When he goes home, he speaks Chinese with his parents. But the constant shift between languages hasn't hurt his desire to learn. Felix also attends a morning Greenwood kindergarten class before heading to Truman in ' the afternoon.
